This Standard provides criteria for defining and identifying fire retardant-treated wood and fire-retardant coatings for building materials.

NFPA 703 has been renamed and revised to ensure that requirements in Chapter 4 (Fire Retardant-Treated Wood) are consistent with comparable requirements in NFPA 5000®: Building Construction and Safety Code®.
